George Tscherny, a New York - based designer, has spent the last few decades collecting objects that showcase his fascination with paraphernalia that uniquely questions the limitations of art, the boundaries art and popular culture, and, most importantly, explores what it is to be human. Changing Faces is unquestionably exotic, witty, unusual, and a beautiful collection of objects of various media, including masks, cartoons, toys, advertisements, and traditional art - objects that are strange or familiar to everyone - that captures the jigsaw puzzle that is the indescribable multiplicity of the human face. Changing Faces is humourously and comprehensively compiled and designed by the author. Whether intricate works of art, psychological studies, social commentary, or a charming memorabilia of a time gone by, this fully interactive, original anthology of ephemera of the human face is an essential title for the enthusiast of popular culture, design, fine art, and psychology, and anyone with a desire to have a fun look into an essential part of all of us.

Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Changing Faces by George Tscherny, softcover, illustrated. published by Princeton Architectural Press, 1994 COMPLETE with face distorting foil sheet, a la Hall of Mirrors. Tscherny apparently has never met a face he didn't like, as long as he can change it. He offers his collection of playing cards, cartoons, masks, toys, and placards, all of which manipulate perception. He explores masks, puzzles, and drawings that flip, flop, or morph to recreate features, and toys ranging from that potato-based life form to a magnetic toy that applies beards and hair to the follicularly challenged. His collection includes truly odd gender-bending materials from Victorian times, political cartoons that probably landed somebody in jail, and a brilliant though startling accessory in the form of a flexible mirror bound into the book. Tscherny, the principle of a New York design company, is apparently so dedicated to his subject that he graces his own author's biography in a mythical beast mask. N° de réf. du vendeur BOT-B-14
