Synopsis

After years of estrangement, two brothers, Moritz, who gave up on an unsatisfying university career teaching mathematics, and Vinzenz, who was a former champion skier, come home to attend the wedding of their former girlfriend Magda. During an uncomfortable confrontation with their sister Kreszenz, and against the background of the festivities that take place the following day, they are forced to come to grips with their past. Memories of shared and individual experiences; consciousness of guilt in their relationship with each other, their father, and especially Magda; revelations of a basic self-centeredness that lies at the heart of their failure to find lasting meaning for their lives; scenes of brief happiness, brutality, loneliness, conflict; a recurring preoccupation with death - all of these are employed by the author to call into question the validity of a modern existence that promotes the cause of the individual at the expense of interhuman relationships.
