One postcard advertising the availability of the book is laid in. The author received a direct Regular Army commission in Infantry while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He saw combat in Vietnam. He began writing magazine articles while on active duty. During service, Clif earned a Master's in Communication from Stanford University. He learned more about communications while serving in the Public Affairs office at the Department of Defense. After retirement from active duty, Clif became editor-in-chief of aerospace and defense magazines, including Armed Forces Journal and AIR FORCE Magazine. He served on the Berlin Airlift, 1948-1949. He participated on the Aerospace Industries Association Panel that selected the 100 milestones presented in this book. The 100 milestones presented in this book cover the full spectrum of international aviation milestones. They include brilliant technological innovations, courageous flying feats, stunning military achievements, and pioneering commercial developments. More than 200 photographs, in black and white and in color, complement the text. The Aerospace Industries Association of America, Inc. convened a panel of aerospace experts to select these 100 milestones. Berry is a pilot, and it shows in the manner in which he discusses complex issues, such as Lindbergh's flight planning for his New York to Paris flight. In less adept hands, this could be boring stuff, but as written, it illuminates the Lindbergh story. Two-page spread photographs appear through the book to good effect, one of them being a "three-ship" formation of Pan American Sikorsky S-40 Clippers-a sight worth seeing. The photographs reproduce well on the high quality stock paper, and Berry made good choices in balancing out photographs of hardware and of people. This is a well balanced, vitally interesting, very important book, for it is an excellent summary of the fantastic century of flight we've been privileged to experience. Clif Berry makes it clear to all that as magnificent as the machines have been, they owe everything to the human beings who conceive, build, fly and maintain them, N° de réf. du vendeur 79362
