Directory Enabled Networks is a completely new paradigm for leveraging the network. This title is a comprehensive resource on the design and use of DEN and provides practical examples side-by-side with a detailed introduction to the theory of building a new class of network-enabled applications that will solve networking problems. It is a critical tool for networks architects, administrators, and application developers.

John Strassner is a Fellow at Cisco Systems, where lie drives the use of DEN and policy-based networking. The original inventor of DEN, John is responsible for the overall direction and strategy for the definition and development of directory services and directory enabled networking for Cisco. He is a co-founder of the DEN Initiative, an open initiative to model network elements and services in the directory. John is instrumental in setting the direction for directory- and policy-enabled products and technologies within Cisco, as well as in defining a new set of applications that will support the creation of intelligent network products and services. He is Chair of the Networks Working Group of the DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force), the standards body that oversees the development of the portion of the Common Information Model (CIM) that models network elements and services. John is also a voting member of the CIM TDC, an architectural board that directs the overall development of CIM, as well as an active member in several other DMTF working groups. In addition, John is Co-Chair of two IETF working groups-the LDUP (LDAP Duplication and Update Protocol) Working Group, and the Policy Framework Working Group. John speaks regularly on the topic of directory enabled networks and policy at Cisco customer meetings and conferences, such as Networld + Interop. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California.
