Scott Welty is a recently retired teacher of physics and now full-time cruiser aboard his 30foot sailboat Enee Marie. A lifelong sailor, he writes for Sailing, Ocean Navigator and other publications. For his rare days on land, he lives in Chicago, IL.

Captain David Appleton is Head Instructor at the Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship.
