Synopsis

Long overdue, this new volume explores the latest in Japanese illustration from 30 contemporary masters. For many decades now Japan has been a leader in producing explorative art, creating new stylistic forms that continue to inspire artists the world over while they tackle a range of subject matter. Some artists are firmly entrenched in the bright and colorful world of kawaii, often incorporating a myriad of pop culture references into their work, while others are not afraid to investigate more challenging themes, from our darker pasts to the deepest recesses of our very own psyches. But whether heavily stylized or hyperrealistic, focusing on western or Japanese cultural imagery, their work continues to resonate with an ever-growing audience around the globe.
