Everything you'll ever need to know about keeping horses, presented in one handy, classic volume. This complete guide, originally published in 1859, includes every subject of interest to those who, for pleasure or business, own or use a horse. In a comprehensive and concise manner, Horses, Mules, Ponies, and How to Keep Them offers a vivid historical portrait of horse-keeping prior to the American Civil War, though much of it is still relevant and useful to today's breeders and stablemen.

Henry William Herbert, aka Frank Forester, was the editor of the American Monthly magazine and the author of such titles as The Captains of the Old World, The Roman Republic, The Deer Stalkers, and The Complete Manual for Young Sportsmen. Tragically, Herbert committed suicide while in the midst of composing this book, in the spring of 1858.
