Erik Peper, Ph.D., BCB, is an international authority on biofeedback, lifestyle, holistic health, and stress management. He received his BA from Harvard University in 1968 and his PhD in psychology from Union Graduate Institute in 1975. He is Professor of Holistic Health Studies at San Francisco State University where he was instrumental in establishing the Institute for Holistic Health Studies, the first program of its kind at a public university in the United States. He is President of the Biofeedback Foundation of Europe and past President of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback in the United States. He is recipient of the California Governor's Safety Award (2004) for his contributions to workplace health, the Biofeedback Distinguished Scientist Award in 2013 in recognition of his scientific contributions from the Association for Applied Psychophysiology (AAPB) and in 2025, the Biofeedback Federation of Europe Lifetime Impact Award In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the field. He is an author of numerous scientific articles and books. Most recently, he co-authored the book, TechStress: How Technology is Hijacking Our Lives, Strategies for Coping, and Pragmatic Ergonomics. He publishes the blog, The Peper Perspective: ideas on illness, health, and well-being (www.peperperspective.com) and has a professional practice at BiofeedbackHealth (www.biofeedbackhealth.org). His current research interests focus on self-healing strategies to optimize health, the effects of posture and breath, the role lifestyle in health and chronic disease, and self-mastery with biofeedback. Robert Gorter, MD, PhD, earned his medical degree at the University of Amsterdam Medical School in the Netherlands in 1973. The same year he completed specialty training in anthroposophical medicine in Switzerland, with an emphasis on oncology. From 1983-1986 he received post-doctoral training at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical School. Dr. Gorter was a full UCSF faculty member from 1986 to 2008 and he also earned a PhD from the University of Witten/Herdecke in Germany in 1993, where he continues to serve as a faculty member. In the 1980s he was a physician and researcher on AIDS at San Francisco General Hospital in the world-renowned Ward 86. Subsequently, for four years, Dr. Gorter was medical director of the Department of AIDS Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UCSF. In 1993 he founded the European Institute for Oncological and Immunological Research in Berlin. In 2000 he founded the Medical Center Cologne, dedicated to the treatment of cancer using dendritic cell vaccinations and adult mesenchymal stem cells in combination with immune supportive therapies and hyperthermia, and has been its director since then.
