"Stanley Mazor is one of the architects of the information age... So it was not surprising that when Mr. Mazor turned his hand to building a vacation house, his approach would be inventive... He chronicled the project in 2003, in a book, 'Design an Expandable House for Present Needs and Future Dreams' (Unlimited Publishing)." -- The New York Times, 2/17/05
"Design an Expandable House" chronicles the multi-staged development of an elegant 3-story house using Styrofoam ICF building blocks and other innovative building materials. It shows how to build a house in stages, starting with an initial living space and systematically adding to the structure by design.
Following a trip to France to study the architecture of a classic Normandy chateau, author Stanley Mazor created floor plans on his home computer, and constructed an 1,800 square foot, 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath summer home. Following the original plan, a 3,000 square foot left wing was added. Finally, the right wing shown in the figures below was completed, and is fully covered in the new second edition. The techniques used and lessons learned in the process make this book an ideal resource for new home designers and professionals alike. It is profusely illustrated with more than 70 photographs and many diagrams.
