Soft cover. Etat : NEW - COLLECTIBLE. Ted Lewin (Illustrator) (illustrateur). First Edition, First Printing. Text/BRAND NEW & Bright. 1994, First Edition, 1st Printing. Softcover/Fine. Award winning book from Canadian children's writer Sheldon Oberman (1949 - 2004) illustrated by American artist Ted Lewin (1935 - 2021). Some things are short lived while others endure, as are endowments from one generation to the next. The tallit, the Jewish prayer shawl, is one such. Told through the story of young Adam who fled from his ancestral home in czarist Russia on the outbreak of the revolution. On departure for America, Adam's grandfather bequeaths him the prayer shawl that had been handed down to him by his own grandfather, also named Adam. So unfolds the life of Adam & his prayer shawl, spanning from times past to the present. Young Adam will have a family & a grandson of his own --- by then shawl is quiet worn; first the fringes (tzitzit), then the collar, at last even the cloth were mended, but still in use. As an old man, Adams describe the tallit: "It is just like me. I have changed . But I am still Adam.'' Some things change & some things don't. Sheldon Oberman's 40 page picture book is a moving account of the role of the Jewish prayer shawl, as well as the bonding of generations. N° de réf. du vendeur 020637
