Joseph S. Schuster, P.E., S.E., is a practicing structural engineer licensed in New York, New Jersey, and Illinois. He holds a BS in civil engineering from Cornell University and an MS in structural engineering from Stanford University. Mr. Schuster is a Vice President at Thornton Tomasetti’s Newark office. He has a broad range of design experience including the analysis of high-rise towers, the expansion of existing buildings, and the renovation of historic structures. Currently, his work is focused on the forensic investigation of failed structural systems. Mr. Schuster consults with attorneys, insurers, building owners, engineers, and architects in support of construction litigation claims. He has lectured at Rutgers University on structural forensics and has presented to the New Jersey State Bar Association on best practices for attorneys working with engineering experts. Mr. Schuster is a co-author of AISC Design Guide 15, Rehabilitation and Retrofit Guide, a reference for the evaluation and strengthening of historic steel construction.
