Synopsis

In pre-colonial America, nineteen-year-old Pino carries the weight of her past as she scouts for the Manatuck tribe. When she discovers the rival Pagassett warriors planning a massive attack, she must embrace her role as both warrior and leader. But the arrival of mysterious allies, the recovery of sacred artifacts, and the emergence of a legendary spirit known as the Falcon complicate her mission to protect her people.
This richly-woven historical fiction brings to life the complex world of indigenous warfare, spiritual beliefs, and female leadership.

Martha Engber is the author of Winter Light, the 2021 IPPY Gold Medal Winner in Young Adult Fiction.
