For some thirty years, Joel Silverman has been training dogs and other animals for film, television, advertising and live shows. On the big screen, his many credits include A Good Year, with Russell Crowe, shot in the south of France. On the small screen, he has been instrumental in the training and coordination of the dogs and cats in the IAMS commercials since 1998. Silverman has also trained animals for various prime-time TV shows, including the dog Dreyfuss on the Nielsen top-ten series Empty Nest. On the other side of the camera, Silverman and his dog Duke have hosted Good Dog U on Animal Planet since 1999, and he often appears on morning shows such as FOX and Friends and Live With Regis and Kathie Lee. He has also appeared as a dog-training expert on the syndicated TV programme Drs. Foster and Smith Faithful Friends. An innovator in the field of animal training, Silverman was the one who originally taught San Diego Sea World s killer whales, in 1983, to carry him from thirty-three feet under water to the surface and leap out of the water, propelling him into a swan dive. This feat is now regularly performed at Sea World and other shows. Silverman presently lives in Orange County, California.
