This new edition of Peyton's autobiography--originally published in 1967 and reissued in a revised edition in 1997--includes black-and-white photos and a new foreword by Holy Cross Family Ministries president Fr. Willy Raymond, C.S.C., reflecting on Peyton's legacy as a saint for family prayer and his cause for canonization.

Peyton--probably best known for the inspirational phrases "the family that prays together stays together" and "a world at prayer is a world at peace"--encouraged family prayer and devotion to the Rosary throughout his ministry. In his autobiography, the Rosary Priest reflects on his journey from a farm boy in Western Ireland to one of the most effective missionaries of the modern age.

In All for Her Peyton describes his travels to America, hoping to become a millionaire and instead finding work as a janitor in the Scranton cathedral, where he realized the call to the priesthood. In 1929, Peyton entered the seminary, but after years of study and training he was diagnosed with advanced tuberculosis. Conventional treatments at the time were not working. He prayed to the Virgin Mary and his health quickly began to improve. In gratitude he committed his vocation to promote devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary. On the day of his ordination as a priest in the Congregation of Holy Cross, Peyton said, "I gave my heart and soul in love to Mary. I promised her all the merit of my priesthood until death. The merit and glory of every action I would ever perform would be hers and hers alone."

Peyton immediately began advocating for the practice of family Rosary devotion. He embraced the new media as a means to reach people across the globe, and developed radio and television programs that spread a message of prayer and family unity. He founded Family Theater Productions in 1947. Performers in his productions included such stars of Hollywood's golden age as Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Gregory Peck, and Lucille Ball.

Peyton also preached to millions in person, organizing two hundred-sixty Rosary Crusades across the globe. These large rallies included worship, prayer, and benediction. Peyton continued to be active until the 1990s and died in 1992. In 1997, the cause for his canonization was opened.

Father Patrick Peyton, CSC (1909-1992), was a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross who learned the value of praying the Rosary from his humble Irish Catholic family. Naturally shy, "The Rosary Priest," eventually went on to pray with 28 million people through large Rosary rallies he organized.

Peyton immigrated to the United States in 1928 and entered the Holy Cross seminary at the University of Notre Dame in 1932. After a miraculous healing from tuberculosis that he attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Mother, Peyton dedicated his life to spreading devotion to Mary, especially through the Rosary. Peyton founded Family Rosary (1942) and Family Theater Productions (1947), which continue today under Holy Cross Family Ministries.

He was a pioneer in using the media for evangelization, including radio, movies, advertising, and television to spread the gospel with the help of famous celebrities such as Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Ronald Reagan, and Lucille Ball. Peyton produced more than eight-hundred radio and television programs to inspire and educate families on the power of prayer and the Rosary.

Peyton served as a Holy Cross priest for fifty-one years. He is known for the inspirational phrases "The family that prays together stays together" and "A world at prayer is a world at peace."

Peyton's Cause for Sainthood began in July 1997. He was declared venerable by Pope Francis in 2017.

Fr. Willy Raymond, CSC, served as president of Holy Cross Family Ministries--an apostolate of the Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers--from 2014 to 2022. He continues to serve as an auxiliary priest in the Easton, Massachusetts, area.

Raymond joined Holy Cross in 1964 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1971. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Stonehill College in 1967 and a master's degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame in 1971. Raymond served at Stonehill College (1979-1992), in Holy Cross leadership (1994-2000), and as national director of Family Theater Productions (2000-2014).

He remains a diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox even though he served as chaplain for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, CSC (1917-2015), was a theologian, public servant, and the fifteenth president of the University of Notre Dame, serving from 1952 to 1987.

He is considered one of the most influential figures in higher education, national and international affairs, and the Catholic Church in the twentieth century Hesburgh would say, however, that his only vocation was to be a priest. "The happiest day of my life was when I was anointed a Catholic priest," he said.

Hesburgh was ordained a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1943 and celebrated Mass almost every day after that. As president of Notre Dame, Hesburgh is recognized for opening enrollment to women in 1972, increasing minority representation in the workforce, doubling enrollment, and increasing faculty salaries, student aid, research funding, and endowment to the university.

Hesburgh is the recipient of 150 honorary degrees, a Guinness World Record. He was given sixteen presidential appointments and he served on the International Atomic Energy Agency, the National Science Board, and the Civil Rights Commission. He joined Martin Luther King Jr. at a civil rights rally at Soldier Field in 1964, an event memorialized in a now-iconic photo and statue of the two men holding hands.

Among his many awards and honors, Hesburgh was bestowed with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Congressional Gold Medal.

Father James Chichetto, C.S.C., a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, is an assistant professor of writing at Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts. He has published four books of poetry, two of which were assisted by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. His work has appeared in several anthologies and many periodicals.
