"A love for natural science is a very good reason for keeping bees," writes Anna Botsford Comstock in her book How to Keep A Handbook for the Use of Beginners . She continues by saying that "one may keep bees because they belong to home life and should have a place in every well-kept garden or orchard." What Comstock may not have anticipated in 1905 is the current (2014) crisis facing honey bee (and other pollinators) populations. With the rapid decline of pollinators, the need for amateur and professional bee-keepers who can maintain and increase these populations is of utmost importance.
