Thirty years ago when Richard Hays and I were doing our doctoral work, he asked me to read a draft of his thesis on the faithfulness of Jesus Christ in Galatians.  I was immediately impressed with the importance of this theme, and filled the margins of the manuscript with copious notes and suggestions.  Richard could not have imagined then what an enormous storm of controversy his exploring of this theme would cause in scholarly communities right round the world, and the controversy still rages thirty years later.  I have long wished for a collection of essays, from varying viewpoints that examines the subject of  pistis Christou more thoroughly, and finally thanks to Michael Bird and others we have one.  Not only are there essays in this volume by NT scholars but also by theologians as well, as the wider impact of 'the faithfulness of Christ' theme are assessed.
