Présentation de l'éditeur

This book encompasses a large, diverse audience - curious readers, everyday writers, and professional writers. It's accessible for the beginner and a much-needed resource for the expert, an exceptionally reader-friendly resource, with plenty of sidebars, boxed suggestions, and checklists.

Grammatical terms and concepts are clearly defined and discussed with precision - but in language that is neither formidable nor condescending. This book emphasizes that even professional writers occasionally fall into error. This allows readers to feel empowered when they are detecting and correcting errors in real-world sentences instead of being asked to do exercises consisting of obviously made-up, schoolbook-variety sentences unrelated to the wider world in which the readers live.

This title:
- illustrates errors in sentence structure and grammar and shows writers how to correct them so they can improve their work and avoid making errors in the futur
- explains how sentences operate (how individual words combine to form the various types of phrases and clauses) so that writers learn the machinery of language and can detect mistakes, even if they don't conform to the usual pattern of error
- offers checklists, sidebars, and tips that provide summaries of information and extra helpful advice that allow writers interact with the text and stay interested
- includes a glossary of grammatical terms supplementing discussion in the chapters which provides readers a quick reference without having to flip back through the text.
