“Every Third Grade teacher must share this book with her last class of the day.” --Paul Harvey, from "Paul Harvey News" What happens when the progress of human kind encroaches on the habitat of the native desert wildlife? What would that look like through the eyes of the quail? Strong Feather is set outside the edge of town—where development meets the desert--and intrudes upon its inhabitants. Enter the world of the quail—the covey people. It’s a story of: · Family, heritage, and important traditions · Facing unexpected changes and challenges in life · Coming of age, and moving from childhood games to taking on big responsibilities · Memorable characters in the covey community like Little-Q, Papa, Mama, Grandpa-Q, Quinata, and many more. · The dangers of tall poison flowers, and the monsters that threaten · The importance of the Work, the Memory Stick, and the Day Star · Friends who look out for one another · The heroics that will be needed for the survival of the covey people. It’s a story for all ages—that you’ll enjoy reading—and reading to your kids or grandkids You will never again hear the “err, err, err” call of a quail, without being drawn back to this endearing story.
