Biographie de l'auteur

Hermann Gunkel (1862 – 1932) was a German Old Testament scholar. He was a leading representative of the "History of Religions school". His major works cover Genesis and the Psalms and his major interests were the oral tradition behind the written sources and in folklore. He is also noted for founding form criticism; a method of biblical criticism that classifies units of scripture by literary pattern and then attempts to trace each type to its period of oral transmission.
