Anna Green was an early 20th century novelist. She was one of the first authors to write detective stories in America. Her stories are known for their well thought out plots and their legal accuracy. Although Green wrote in a genre previously dominated by men she did n think much of feminists and opposed women's suffrage. Her second novel A Strange Disappearance was published in 1880. Initially published in 1880, A Strange Disappearance in another novel involving "Mr. Gryce" with him looking into two unconnected mysteries. Mr. Gryce delegates 'Q' for the investigation.

'Q', who is first seen in The Leavenworth Case is of a crepuscular nature, perhaps he can be described as even eerily murky, but in the end he achieves his goal.

In the case of "The Strange Disappearance", he also become the story's narrator and leads us through a string of events that involve a sewing woman who vanishes from the home of Holman Blake.
