The YODER INCIDENT
What happens when an ordinary English teacher is faced with extraordinary circumstances? "The Yoder Incident" chronicles how one non-descript day forever changed the life of an average man.
Jaegan Yoder's wife left him for another man. Stressed and tired of his life, he takes a Friday off from his job as an English teacher and heads to his cabin in the densely-forested lake country of Northern Saskatchewan for a little R&R. En route, he happens upon a fatal accident between security can and a logging track. Upon closer inspection, Yoder finds gold bricks and large amount of cash. With no one around, Yoder takes the booty and leaves.
Fast forward to a year later where Yoder's life takes another bizarre twist. During a fishing trip, he comes upon an overturned canoe with two injured children. He rescues them and races to the hospital. There he meets a beautiful Chinese doctor who has a problem of international proportions. Will Yoder help the young doctor? Will his growing affection for her get in the way of common sense?
Writer Mark Alexander Smith has written heart-warming tales of the foibles if human nature and how, at times, those shortcomings can lead to revelation and redemption of the soul. You will recognize yourself in Jaegan Yoder and you'll be rooting for his happy ending. Smith first taught at Cornwall College in Jamaica, then spent nearly ten years at an international school in Switzerland. Following that, he taught for twenty-eight years in Western Canada with teaching exchanges in Australia twice, the U.S.A., and Switzerland. After a year of retirement in Australia he became bored so he and his wife went to teach in Shanghai, South Korea, and finally in Beijing. They now live in Canada and spend their time fishing, playing tennis, reading, and of course, traveling. The Yoder Incident is his first novel.
