Dutch artist and designer Femke Hiemstra has a unique style and vision that evokes the work of Robert Williams and Mark Ryden, but with a less cynical worldview that invites the viewer to enter the magic spaces she creates. ROCK CANDY is the artist's first retrospective and spotlights her talent, whimsy and wit in a deluxe package certain to catapult her to the forefront of the Pop Surrealism movement. Hiemstra's paintings and illustrations are united by a meticulous attention to craft that gives life to her dark, lush, fairytale landscapes where inanimate objects come to life and frolic with anthropomorphs of all types.

Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. 1st Edition. Hard to find in the UK, this splendid and weird book introduces a great talent. This is the first publication of the Dutch fantasy artist, and it is a refreshing change from all the contemporary unskilled politicised 'art' we see in the galleries. Hers is skill based. She can draw, paint, and sculpt. And, as of this is not enough, she adds wit! This copy has a tiny amount of wear at the cloth bound corners, but it does have the vertical sash encircling the rear board cover. Fantagraphics used this sash instead of a conventional dustjacket. Make sure the copy you buy has this sash; it is essential for the serious collector. Language: eng. N° de réf. du vendeur ABE-1487242017999
