Synopsis

The field of nanocomposites involving organic or inorganic materials is a rapidly rising area of research and application development. In general nano-composites can be broadly defined as a mix of dissimilar components that can be zero-dimensional, one dimensional, two dimensional or three dimensional that are mixed at the nanoscale. The promise driving nano-composites over more traditional composites lies in taking advantage of the new and often exciting properties afforded by nano-structures. Moreover, these properties are often tunable and so significant effort is being focused on our ability to control the properties of the nanostructures and their merging into composites. Thus a significant amount of research is being targeted to understanding the properties both for the individual nano-materials as well as the composite itself, e.g. interfacial interactions.
