Synopsis

This work examines practical and theoretical issues related to policies for sustainable building, drawing on empirical research and case studies. The book starts by exploring the characteristics of sustainable development, then describes the policy network approach, a framework for analyzing sustainable development. This approach demonstrates that the more a policy is geared to take account of the relationship between its context and its actors, the greater its chance of success. Three policy processes in the Netherlands are evaluated using this framework: efforts to reduce zinc emissions, stimulate sustainable building, and restrict urban sprawl. B&w photos and summary tables are included. The audience for the book includes policy makers and scientists. There is no subject index. Van Buren teaches at the Policy, Organization, Law and Gaming Department in Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
