In 2012, Archaia published a graphic novel adaptation as realized byillustrator Ramón K Pérez which went on to win three Eisner Awardsand two Harvey Awards. The Illustrated Screenplay features the complete andfinal 1974 draft of the project with Jim and Jerry's handwritten edits as wellas layouts and inked pages from the adaptation in gorgeous black-and-white, andnever-before-seen sequences that were cut during the production of the graphicnovel, newly illustrated by Ramón K. Pérez.

James Maury "Jim" Henson (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990) was an American puppeteer, artist, cartoonist, Imagineer, inventor, screenwriter, film director and producer, best known as the creator of The Muppets. As a puppeteer, Henson performed in various television programs, such as Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, films such as The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper, and created advanced puppets for projects like Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth. He was also an Academy Award-nominated film director (for his short film Time Piece), Emmy Award-winning television producer, and the founder of The Jim Henson Company, the Jim Henson Foundation, and Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Jerry Juhl was an American television, movie writer, and Jim' Henson's frequent writing partner, best known for his work with Jim Henson's "Muppets". Ramón Pérez is the multiple-award winning cartoonist best known for his graphic novel adaptation of Jim Henson’s Tale Of Sand for publisher Archaia Entertainment. His catalogue of work includes editorial, book, and advertising illustration; comic & sequential art; graphic design; storyboarding; and concept design. Currently he is illustrating Wolverine & the X-Men for Marvel comics and developing his creator owned endeavors Butternutsquash and Kukuburi.
