Synopsis

The Tudor era began with knights and castles, and ended with intercontinental trade and scientific discoveries, as the medieval period gave way to early modern times. During the Tudor Age, Europeans discovered the Americas and found sea routes to Asia and East Africa. The Tudor monarchs encouraged English merchants to launch trading voyages to the new lands. Colonists settled in North America, while merchants moved to Russia, India and other distant lands. These ventures were the start of what was to become the British Empire.
