Synopsis

In April 1862, in one of the oddest incidents in the American Civil War, a group of Union saboteurs stole a train in Georgia and, pursued by another Confederate locomotive, attempted to cripple the Southern supply network by destroying the tracks and railroad bridges. “The Great Locomotive Chase” caused a sensation in both the Union and Confederate press. It led to the execution of many of its participants, and to the award of the newly-minted Congressional Medal of Honor to most. Yet today, the story has been almost completely forgotten. This book is a contemporary firsthand account of the "Great Chase", written by one of its survivors. Illustrated.
