Timothy R. Shope, MD, MPH, FAAP, is an academic general pediatrician and professor of pediatrics at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr Shope has over 30 years of experience consulting with early childhood educational programs and schools, the Department of Defense, and state policymakers on the topic of managing infectious diseases. He speaks regularly at national meetings and webinars and contributes to many publications on the subject.
Andrew N. Hashikawa, MD, MS, FAAP, is a pediatric emergency medicine physician and professor of emergency medicine and pediatrics at the University of Michigan. He has served as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Michigan Early Childhood Champion for over 15 years and recently completed an 8-year term on the Executive Committee of the AAP Council on Early Childhood. Dr Hashikawa is also the founder of the Michigan Child Care Related Infections Surveillance Program (MCRISP), a public health initiative that assists regional child care centers in reporting illnesses to the local health department.
Nicole M. Poole, MD, MPH, FAAP, is a pediatric infectious diseases physician at Children's Hospital Colorado and associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She serves as associate medical director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and leads outpatient stewardship initiatives to optimize the treatment of common childhood infections across emergency, urgent care, and primary care settings. Dr Poole's work integrates clinical expertise, quality improvement, and implementation science to inform practical approaches to infectious disease management in schools and early childhood education programs. She collaborates with clinicians, public health partners, and educators to develop clear, actionable guidance for child care settings. As a parent of young children in early child care, she is committed to ensuring that recommendations are both grounded in evidence and feasible for families and clinicians.
