Robert Traver (John D. Voelker), a best-selling novelist and the District Attorney of Marquette County, Michigan, was appointed to the Supreme Court of Michigan in 1957. His novel Anatomy of a Murder was adapted into a motion picture that recieved seven Academy Award nominations, including best picture

Matthew L.M. Fletcher is an Associate Professor in Michigan State University's College of Law, Director of the Indigenous Law and Policy Center, and an appellate justice for several Michigan tribal courts. In 2010 Professor Fletcher was elected to the American Law Institute.
