Both books have a tiny skew to their bindings, a touch of shelfwear to their spine ends, a hint of rubbing to their covers, and a very minor touch of faint smudging to the edges of their text blocks. Otherwise this is a solid, tight Very Good+ two volume set in crisp Near Fine dust jackets, with a faint note of wear to the jacket of Vol. One at the tail of the spine and corners. Centipede have excelled their own high standards in thoroughness, in production, and design. nstead of the monsters and heroes of the early formulaic pulps, Wilhelm's work is characterized by well-drawn characters, coherent plots, and psychological, moral, and philosophical tension. She was an early female science fiction writer at a time when the genre was dominated by white male writers, and her work helped reshape the genre, bringing humanity, family relationships, and psychological motivation into focus. Her early works were published in science fiction magazines and earned readers' respect, if not awards, allowing her to hone her craft and gain an understanding of the publishing world.
