Synopsis

Rock Romance:- Alison is romantic, anxious and unsettled. She meets and falls in love with Chris, a student who plays guitar in a folk duo. Chris' kindness and respect allows her to safely release a sexuality repressed after a bad experience. She asks to join the band; her voice and natural talent providing the catalyst that generates excitement. A magical weekend at a small Welsh festival leads to an offer to turn professional. Alison’s vision of a glamorous life as a pop-star is shattered when, moving to London they begin three months of intensive practice. Lliving in squalid bed-sits and worn out by incessant practice, their tiny income is supplemented by pub gigs where her determination in the face of abusive audiences earns the respect of her companions. At the end of their brief apprenticeship they begin touring and release a single that achieves some success. A summer season at a seaside theatre provides a literal and metaphorical breath of fresh air despite problems and rivalries. Dave leaves the band and is replaced by Sue a pretty keyboard player who adds a new dimension to their image but also provides new problems. Having a friend to share her experiences brings happiness and a new confidence to Alison but misjudgements are rewarded with unhappiness. The band self destructs and only the support of friends and family allow Chris and Alison to rebuild their shattered friendship and to move on.
