Initially I thought Draw Your Own Fonts may be a bit of a novelty, and contain more style than substance, but as lighthearted as this book is, I was impressed by the amount of key information that has been condensed into a relatively small amount of space, such as the importance of maintaining some kind of structure, and retaining consistent sizing in order to prevent your fonts looking amateurish. Everything is written in a relaxed, easy-to-read manner and is ideal for newcomers. It serves not only as inspiration by giving you lots of examples of letterforms, but also as a workbook, asking you to experiment and play, in order to learn how individual letters and whole fonts are structured, by actually doing. It's a fun way to learn and this is definitely one of the most enjoyable type-based books that I've had the pleasure of reading. --UK Handmade
