Synopsis

There is nothing so perfect in the world as to be quite above objection and criticism. The very sun which gives us light and warmth is not free from spots, yet notwithstanding these defects it does not desist from its regular duty. It behooves us in like manner to carry on to the best of our ability what has been entrusted to us, and strive constantly to make our lives fruitful. When the truths set forth in this book were revealed to me by the Master they deeply affected my life, and some of them have been used by me in my sermons and addresses in Europe, America, Africa, Australia, and Asia. At the request of many friends I have now gathered them together in this little book, and though it is possible that there are defects in setting them forth, I am sure that those who read them with prayer and an unprejudiced mind will benefit from them as I have.

À propos de l'auteur

Rev. Arthur Parker was a Christian missionary, translator, and writer associated with the London Mission in Travancore, India, during the early twentieth century. He is best remembered in connection with Sadhu Sundar Singh, whose teachings he helped bring to English-language readers. In early editions of At the Master's Feet, Parker is credited as translator, and the work's publication history also connects him and Mrs. Parker with the English presentation of Singh's devotional writings.Parker's importance lies in his role as a bridge between Indian Christian spirituality and the wider English-speaking Christian world. Working from within the missionary context in India, he helped present Singh not merely as a subject of biography, but as a living spiritual teacher whose thought deserved careful transmission. Parker also wrote introductory and biographical material on Singh, including work associated with Sadhu Sundar Singh: Called of God, further helping to establish Singh's reputation among Western readers interested in Christian devotion, missionary history, Indian Christianity, and modern Christian mysticism.
