Pirates, Buccaneers, Marooners, those cruel but picturesque sea wolves who once infested the Spanish Main, all live in present-day conceptions in great degree as drawn by the pen and pencil of Howard Pyle.
Join the adventure on the high seas as brave men fight pirates and sale into the unknown.

Howard Pyle was an American illustrator, writer, teacher, and central figure in the development of American illustration. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1853, Pyle became famous for his historical adventure stories, Arthurian retellings, pirate tales, and richly dramatic illustrations. His books helped shape the visual language of medieval romance, colonial adventure, and pirate fiction for generations of readers. He also taught and influenced a major group of American illustrators, including N. C. Wyeth, and his work remains closely associated with the Golden Age of Illustration.Pyle's writing and art combined historical imagination with strong narrative movement, memorable figures, and a powerful sense of costume, setting, and action. His works include The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, Otto of the Silver Hand, Men of Iron, and several Arthurian volumes, but his pirate stories and pictures were especially influential. Howard Pyle's Book of Pirates, published in 1921, gathers the kind of material that made Pyle one of the defining creators of the modern pirate image in classic adventure literature and illustrated children's books.
