Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American author and educator best known for her classic children's novel Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Maine, Wiggin devoted much of her early life to education and helped establish the first free kindergarten in San Francisco.In addition to her educational work, she wrote numerous novels, short stories, and holiday tales that celebrated family life, childhood, and the warmth of community. Her writing is remembered for its gentle humor, moral insight, and enduring appeal.Today Wiggin remains one of the most beloved American writers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
