As a small boy, Wes Applegate sat entranced, listening to the stories his maternal great grandmother told about her husband being threatened by Billy the Kid. As if that were not enough, Wes’ paternal grandfather homesteaded in eastern Oregon as a boy. One of Wes’ fondest memories is of traveling with his grandfather and a great uncle to examine the big round barn and other historic sites of that region. Wes had additional ancestors who worked for the famed Oregon cattle baron Pete French, which likely accounts for the sense of adventure and pioneering spirit that flows through Wes’ veins.
