Synopsis

1991―Val, a teenager from a conservative family,has grown up dreaming of becoming a ballerina, but recently something haschanged. She’s begun feeling pressure to conform to a specific idea ofbeauty, body type, and a personality that just doesn’tfit.

Val meets Kat, a smart, witty girl thatdoesn’t take any crap off anyone. Kat introduces Val to punk rock. Alongwith Rudie, another new friend, the three form an all-girl punk band theyironically name The Proper Ladies.

Soon Valand her friends find themselves caught up in a movement with other girls alsostarting bands―also finding their voice. Collectively, these “riotgrrrls” discover that their songs ring out loud and powerful, and for Val,there’s no going back.

Rick Spears has written numerous graphic novels and comics including, TEENAGERS FROM MARS, BLACK METAL, and THE AUTEUR. He’s also written for film, television, and directed a handful of award-winning short films. He lives in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, son, and schnauzer.

Emmett Hobbes has been making comics since he could read. While pursuing a BFA in sequential art, he signed on to illustrate My Riot, a coming-of-age graphic novel about girl punks in the ?90s. His work can also be seen in the original Sweaty Palms Anthology, Rick and Morty: Ever After, the occasional variant cover, and in the Webtoon Original Royale: The Prussian Blue. He has a soft spot for tricksters, the supernatural, and period pieces.
