R. Lee Ermey served in the United States Marine Corps for eleven years, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was later given an honorary promotion to Gunnery Sergeant for his continued civilian service to the Marine Corps. His acting career has ranged from Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket (for which he earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor) to the Toy Story films (as the voice of “Sarge”) and the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He also hosted the popular History Channel shows Mail Call and Lock N’ Load with R. Lee Ermey. He passed away in 2018.
