Synopsis

In Go Far with Chinese Level 1A, students follow Isabella and Martin Lopez, two American teenagers whose mother receives a work assignment overseas, as they begin learning Chinese, move to China, and explore their new neighborhood in Beijing. Each Chapter brings a new episode in the lives of the Lopezes in the form of an entertaining comic story that combines the Chapter vocabulary and grammar in a novel way. Level 1A covers topics that are both relevant and interesting to teenage language learners, such as family, pets, sports, and music. A special introductory lesson guides students through the basics of Mandarin pronunciation, the Chinese writing system, and basic word order. Levels 1A and 1B teach the same content as Level 1 and are intended to be used for two years at the middle school level or in programs with limited instructional hours.
