Synopsis

In 1865 America's Civil War finally ended, stopping the bloodshed and division of the North and South. Shortly after the surrender was signed, a letter of commendation was delivered to an unsung hero at a Massachusetts farmhouse. Tragically, this hero did not live long enough to reap the benefits of this commendation.Nearly a century later, the farmhouse, rechristened the Barn Swallow Inn, has been converted into a horse-friendly bed & breakfast by new owners Reene Anderson and Lissa Martin. A Grand Opening introduces them to the local business owners and officials of their adopted town. However, the paint was barely dry on the inn's sign when Anderson and Martin realized one uninvited guest would not be a welcome one. Things were going bump in the night and guests were departing at the speed of light. As the beleagured women try to sort out the connection between their 'visitor' and the mayhem suddenly raining down on their heads, another problem rears its ugly head. A suspicious murder puts the new owners in the cross hairs of the law. And why does ruthless politician Andrea Wilson have a vendetta against them? Anderson and Martin are dragged into a frightening world of dark secrets and tangled passions. An upcoming election hinges on Wilson maintaining a tenuous hold on her political acumen. When the two women stage a special event to honor the Civil War hero, Wilson's world crumbles. With everything dear to her in ruins, Wilson, whose deep-rooted hatred is racially motivated, resorts to the ultimate act of cruelty. As Anderson and Martin fight for their lives, help arrives from an unexpected source. When the smoke has cleared, literally, the Civil War hero has been vindicated and can now rest in peace.
