Synopsis

Though tremendous legislative strides have been made regarding gender inequality in the United States, sexism still exists, and the Christian church has played a major role in maintaining its existence. This will change when and if individuals swim upstream against the status quo in their churches, refusing to let opposition stop them.

The stories of individuals who made significant contributions to both the civil rights movement and the women’s rights movement fill this book in the hope that their stories will encourage you to swim upstream against gender inequality in your church.

À propos de l'auteur

Mary Detweiler became fascinated early in life by the idea that there are reasons why people do what they do and feel what they feel. This grew into a lifelong desire to understand what makes people tick and to help people live healthy, happy lives emotionally and relationally.

In the past she did this in her career as a psychotherapist and in her service as a recovery ministry leader. God eventually narrowed her passion to focus on women. He lit a fire in her heart to help his daughters be set free from belief systems and practices that reinforce the inequality of the sexes. She now lives out this passion by swimming upstream.

Mary and her husband live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They have two grown children.
