Synopsis

When hometown New Mexico girl Karen Lafferty steps out of secular entertainment and into the heart of the Jesus movement at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in California, she finds herself on the leading edge of the new Christian music phenomenon Maranatha! Music. One of the first “Jesus musicians” to take the world by storm, Karen authors “Seek Ye First,” the beloved Scripture song that goes global. During a European tour, God kindles a new vision in her heart to recruit and send thousands of international Christian musicians into all the world with the gospel. That vision takes root when Karen joins Youth With A Mission and launches Musicians for Missions International.

But Seek Ye First: The Karen Lafferty Story is more than just an account of Karen’s music and ministry success. It dares to lift the curtain on the devastating childhood loss, sexual abuse, identity crisis, personal failures, and misguided same-sex relationships she battles along the way. Karen humbly reveals how these seeming disasters taught her that God still does what he promises in Matthew 6:33: if we seek him first in all things, he will faithfully give us everything we need to overcome, heal, and thrive.

“Rarely can we look with such clarity into the life of a contemporary woman of God and see how God uses our frailty and brokenness. Karen’s story will show you how God makes use of our passions and talents when, even in our brokenness, we choose to follow Jesus’s sacrificial path to serve others.”

—Rev. Dr. Byron Spradlin

“I couldn’t put this book down. Why? Because autobiography written in stark honesty is a rare gift.”

—John Dawson
