Synopsis
Mellow Cello is a collection of short stories from a variety of time periods. From the Author: After being forced to stop playing cello, I began inventing stories about and for cellists. A few have a humorous link to the instrument. Others are about the players, the music, or the inspiration behind both. The timespan is more than the entire span of the existence of the cello as an instrument. Some concern its development from its roots in Italy. A number include a great deal of musical history, some none. Sometimes the edges between fiction and fact are juxtaposed.
About the author: Raised in London to be a musician, I have had one successful foray into the literary world with the publishing of a poem at the age of five, which instilled in me the ambition to be an influential writer. After school I worked in a mental hospital and as a postman before embarking on a career in educating the young. Working backwards through the age groups I arrived at the stage where I had to produce the next generation, and soon after decided to live in the country with my husband and children. Moving to find my identity and roots in Wales I became a founder member of a commune, whose main achievement was working to keep nuclear waste out of Wales, but whose social structure was as flawed as that of the systems they battled.
Moving deeper into the heart of Wales I discovered my spiritual home. I began teaching instrumental music, before embarking on the writing career that had been my first ambition. I am currently revising my first novel set in the stone age. Meanwhile I have edited and corrected the new edition of the English version of Manuel Vega’s Sailors of Stonehenge, also his winning short story collection Laurels Galore, subsequently revising his Voyage Zero. My wish is to write as well as Edith Pargeter and George Mackay Brown.
Combining my love of the cello with my desire to write, cello stories was a natural progression.
