Born in Portland, Ore., to descendants of Oregon Trail pioneers, Carole T. Beers fell in love with writing as soon as she could read, and with horses as soon as she could ride. After earning a B.A. in Journalism at University of Washington, she taught at a private school, wrote for true-romance magazines and worked 30 years as a reporter/critic for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Seattle Times newspaper. Several of her pieces won awards. Along the way she competed on a women's shooting team and earned a pilot's license. She also worked in marketing and retail – great sources of story and character ideas! Carole now lives in Southern Oregon, where she enjoys writing mystery books and stories. Her debut novel, "Saddle Tramps," centers on two 50-something women who show horses and solve crimes. These sassy ladies are ever seeking the perfect mate and the perfect horse, neither of which, they suspect, exists. Over the Edge, a sequel to Saddle Tramps forces the plucky, modern-day cowgirl-sleuth to find a lost girl and solve a pair of murders half a country apart – aided by Sonny Chief, her Lakota policeman partner in crime-solving…. and romance. In the pipeline is Ghost Ranch, a third book in the Pepper Kane Mystery series, as well as Blood Rider. The latter is about a horse-loving teen and a circuit-riding minister who's her triple-great grandfather. Each hunts down a killer a century apart Soon Carole will publish a 16,000-word novella, "The Stone Horse," inspired by Zuni carvings of spirit animals. Years ago she mentored Indian youth, sang on a drum and danced in pow-wows, with the support of Lakota, Cree and Northwest Coast friends. She still holds these friendships dear to her heart. Carole's free-time pursuits include dancing, playing games and watching the Seattle Seahawks along with her husband, Rich Peterson. She also likes to attend Bethany Presbyterian Church, visit friends, hang with her Boston Terriers, and ride her American Paint horse, Brad. Though retired from showing, she still rides as if she may show next week. You may reach Carole at: www.facebook.com/caroletbeers www.caroletbeers.com
