It explains the development of MSMEs from various theoretical perspectives, and examines empirically some important related issues, such as their growth or performance in times of economic crises (i.e. the Asian financial crisis 1997/98, the 2008/09 global financial crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic crisis); their role in economic development especially with respect to their contributions to the generation of jobs or employment opportunities, gross domestic product (GDP) and export growth; challenges and constraints of women entrepreneurship; their access to formal sources of financing and the importance of financial technology especially Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending; development constraints facing MSMEs; their adoption of internet for marketing their products (e-commerce) in the context of digital transformation; and their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs). Researchers, development policy makers, PhD and undergraduate students on economic development issues, as well as society at large who have great attention to development, challenges, opportunities and constraints MSMEs in developing countries, especially in Indonesia, are the main target audience of this book.
