Synopsis

Over 100 true stories. 8 sections. One listener. Still Here is a collection of true stories about the moments that changed everything. Each entry captures a single pivotal instant — a phone call, a parking lot, a quiet Tuesday night — witnessed and told by the host of The Life Shift Podcast, who spent four years sitting across from strangers and asking them about the moments that split their lives into before and after. Some of these moments are devastating. Some are beautiful. Some arrived loudly, without warning. Some arrived quietly, almost invisibly, until the person looked up and realized everything had already changed. The book is organized into eight sections, each exploring a different kind of life shift:

  • Moments when the ground gives way
  • Moments that arrived quietly
  • Moments the body knew before the mind did
  • Impossible decisions
  • Sentences that changed everything
  • Moments moved by love
  • Doors that appeared out of nowhere
  • Secrets carried alone for years
After each story, the host offers a brief poetic reflection addressed directly to the reader. Not analysis. Not advice. Just what he heard, and what it might mean for you. Still Here is for anyone who has ever had a moment that split their life in two. It is an invitation to feel less alone, and a reminder of the extraordinary resilience that lives inside ordinary people.

À propos de l'auteur

Matt Gilhooly is the creator and host of The Life Shift Podcast, now in its fifth season with over 240 episodes and listeners around the world. He started asking strangers about their pivotal moments because of his own - his mother died in a motorcycle accident when he was eight years old, and for decades, he carried that loss quietly, the way people do when no one teaches them how to grieve. The podcast became his way of finally asking the question out loud. Still Here is his first book. He lives in the Orlando, Florida area.
