Kent Chapman's enthusiasm for children's literature paralleled his experiences as a father, and Pat the Bat was a project that he and his two daughters, Claire and Meredith, worked on while they were young students at a Montessori school in Denton, Texas. Chapman has authored many scientific publications, but Pat the Bat was his first foray into children's books. For the last 25 years, Kent and his wife Kerrie have called Denton, Texas their home. The two are blessed to have many family members nearby in Texas, and some a bit farther away in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Kansas and Oklahoma.
Kelly is an illustrator and art teacher at Chavez Elementary in Little Elm, Texas. In her prime as an illustrator, Kelly worked with Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, American Airlines, and many others. As a teacher, she shares her passion for art and books with her students on a daily basis. On weekends, you can find Kelly painting dog or cat portraits, working on illustrations, designing pillows for her website or writing lesson plans for the school. Kelly's love for children's books began when she was a young mom reading to her son and daughter, Robert, and Mandi. Now she gets to see her five-year-old great-nephew, Clark, learn to read and begin his love for books. Kelly is excited to collaborate with KD Chapman on his second book for early readers.
