Rashmi Roul is one of the well-known figures of contemporary Odia literature. She has published seven novels and eight anthologies of short stories. Her book My Lost Village won the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award in 2004. This novel has Bengali and Hindi renditions for the readers to relish its ethnic flavour. It is Wordsworthian in its style. The idyllic setting of the countryside appeals to the heart and soul of the individuals who grew up in the village's natural set-up and socio-cultural milieu. No one can escape its overarching effect. The flora, fauna, and human relationships have a memorable and everlasting impact on the human psyche. How educated one may be and wherever one may be, the individual will always long for country life. The novelist becomes very nostalgic while dealing with her plot for this work of art. The giant banyan tree, the Parvati River, Naib's homestead land and pond, anecdotes related to Kashia-Chatana, the real characters of the contemporary society, stories of the supernatural elements, the environment of wild shrubs, screw pines, palm trees, arjuna trees, truth brush trees, and blue lilies blossoming in the pond are deeply rooted in the protagonist Srimayi's psyche. The serene and sublime Nature of the village moves her. The silent call of the land where she is from invokes her zeal to revisit the land time and again.
