Synopsis

The colonists are stranded on Arbor. The planet that was to be their new home has turned on them and turned some of them into forest people. People that have been chemically addicted to the trees and seek to do the will of the forest. The crew of the starship have also been stranded. In a different location, and with the remainder of the colonists they seek to find a way to fight the influence of the trees. Some of them also seek the lives of those that have been turned by the trees. And then there are the trees of the forest. They have recently learned of stars and other planets by probing the memories and knowledge of human colonists. They want to build ships to take tree-kind out into the universe. Will the colony survive? Will the crew of the starship succeed in immunizing people against the spore of the trees? Will the trees be able to reach for the stars?
