Synopsis

Quantum physicists postulated the wave-particle duality trying to interpret and unify “wave” and “particle” natures of both light and matter. We raise a question: Whether wave-particle duality is an intrinsic nature for objects, more specifically, whether both wave nature and particle nature are primary? The word “primary” means “Should be independent of state of motion of object/apparatus/observer”, namely “Should not depend on whether the object/apparatus/observer is uniformly moving or accelerating”. Next question is how to test? For this aim, we design several experiments to study the intrinsic nature of accelerating objects. In this book we report several experimental results which shows that particle nature is intrinsic, "wave nature" is secondary and is a wave-like distribution. The conclusions are the following.(1)Accelerating objects do not have wave nature.(2)The particle nature of matter is primary, while the wave nature is secondary and under certain conditions. Applying the duality between photon and matter again, this conclusion can be extended to photons and propose a hypothesis that the particle nature of photons is primary and the wave nature is secondary.(3)More precise, “wave nature” is just a wave-like distribution.(4)Experiments done on new designed apparatuses show 2D-interference patter and demonstrate that wave-like distribution and particle-like behavior of photon coexist in the same experiment, which violates Bohr’s complementarity principle.(5)Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle is extended to describe accelerating objects.(6)The combination of conclusions (1) and (5) provides a mechanism of wave function collapse. (7)Introduce an interesting concept that wave function, after collapsing, would restore.(8)Re-test and reinterpret the delayed-choice experiment.(9)Double-slit and cross-double-slit have rotation-invariance.The wave-particle duality is “one real mystery of quantum mechanics” (Richard Feynman). To explore this real mystery and basic phenomena of quantum physics systematically and experimentally, the focus of this book is on designing varieties of modern apparatuses, experiments and thought-experiments to explore the nature of wave-particle duality of both photons and objects, to test complementarity and to extend uncertainty principle.
